John 12:12-19 the Triumphal Entry

I find it rather interesting that John does not talk much about the Triumphal Entry.

Other gospels are much more informative about this event.

One of the reasons may be the intent of the writer. John's purpose was not to inform the reader of events that occurred. His purpose was to explain the events that would lead the reader to believe.

What does that mean to us? I would think that there are certain parts of his Gospel that were expounded on more or less so that we would get more than just a history lesson.

Yes I know all scripture is inspired and alive and powerful enough to change us. John is just somehow different. (in my opinion)

The thing that stuck out to me in this passage was that the disciples did not understand these events as they were happening. John points that out in verse 16.

He then goes on to point out that after Jesus "was glorified", they remembered that these things were written about Him before hand.

Isn't it funny that when we are in the midst of trials or hardships we seldom remember the promises that our Father made  to us. We always get so dismayed by the events we lose track of how much God loves us and cares deeply for us.

This is one of the reasons we are made to live in community. We need to remind each other how God came through for us. How God delivered us in times of trouble. How God brought us through the desert places.

We also need to remind each other of the scriptures and study them together.

God did not make us to be lone rangers. He made us to be joined to others in many different relationships for our good.

Did you ever wonder why when you are feeling like a failure, you wanted to be alone in your misery? that is the enemy trying to divide and conquer.

The same way a lion does to a herd of gazelles (or whatever they eat). Divide the weak or the lame from the pack.

I challenge you today to look around, spot the ones that are falling away from the herd and bring them back in. Let's not let the enemy have anyone today.
